I’m working on mastering a few new techniques with this piece. It’s challenging and satisfying to take such a hard material as this Mango wood and make it move with fluidity. This is about 20 hours of cutting, carving, shaping, sanding, and finishing to get the details right. The sculpture’s base is also made from wood, using a special process I’ve developed to mimic brushed and battered concrete. With limited tools and space, I find myself relying a lot on innovation and imagination to bring my vision out. Really happy about this one.
